Fuel Filter Service Warning
SPN 94/FMI 15

Check as follows:

1. Replace fuel filters. Refer to section “Removal of the Coalescer/Final Filter – Two Filter System ” .

Diesel engine exhaust and some of its constituents are known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm.
  • Always start and operate an engine in a well ventilated area.
  • If operating an engine in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
  • Do not modify or tamper with the exhaust system or emission control system.

PERSONAL INJURY
To avoid injury before starting and running the engine, ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface, parking brake is set, and the wheels are blocked.

ENGINE EXHAUST
To avoid injury from inhaling engine exhaust, always operate the engine in a well-ventilated area. Engine exhaust is toxic.
2. Start engine and check Low Pressure Pump Out (LPPO) fuel pressure. For EPA10 engines, use J-48876 to measure pressure at the priming port. Is fuel pressure within specified range? Refer to section “Normal Fuel System Pressures- Two-Filter System” .
2.1. Yes; release vehicle.
2.2. No; Go to step 3.
3. Using Fuel Filter Module Inlet/Outlet Hoses (J-48707) and Fuel Flow Tool (J-48708-1), run the supply and return lines to the Fuel Flow Tool. Prime the fuel system and start the engine. Is LPPO fuel pressure within specified range? For EPA10 engines, use J-48876 to measure pressure at the priming port. Refer to section “Normal Fuel System Pressures- Two-Filter System” .
3.1. Yes; repair the restriction on the OEM fuel system.
3.2. No; Go to step 4.
4. Remove and inspect the two-stage valve. Refer to section “Removal of the Two-Stage Valve for Two-Filter System ” . Was damage found?
4.1. Yes; replace the two-stage valve. Refer to section “Installation of the Two-Stage Valve – Two Filter System” .
4.2. No; Go to step 5.
5. Remove and inspect the high pressure flange and all low pressure fuel lines. Refer to section “Removal of the High Pressure Fuel Flange – Two-Filter System” . Was damage or a restriction found?
5.1. Yes; replace damaged component.
5.2. No; replace fuel filter module. Refer to section “Removal of the Fuel Filter Module – Two-Filter System” .
